The production story

The episode follows archaeological attempts to locate Helike after its destruction in 373 BCE. ZDF’s synopsis describes how a fresh reading of ancient accounts changed the search from the open sea towards the inland landscape.

ZDF dates the episode to 26 December 2021. This World Media Rights production is distinct from the later Netflix series with the same Ancient Apocalypse title. Its Atlantis framing is part of the programme’s interpretation and is not presented here as an established identification.
