Democracy Is Coming

Classical Greece
Christos Sarris connects Greek tragedy and the Athenian political inheritance with contemporary debate through an Onassis Culture documentary.

The production story
Drawing on Simon Critchley’s Tragedy, the Greeks, and Us, the film brings theatre and political reflection into conversation. Its ancient-Greek relevance lies in the continuing interpretation of tragedy and democracy, rather than a dramatisation of classical Athens.
Onassis published the film on 25 October 2024. The 2018 presentation of Birds in Brooklyn and the 2019 Onassis festival are part of its background; those event dates are not the film’s release year.
Known filming locations
The Onassis account connects the film with theatre and discussion in New York. It does not publish a complete documentary filming schedule.
