The production story

Filmed over a period of 35 years, Zakros places archaeological work beside the continuing lives of people in eastern Crete. Nikolaos Platon’s excavation becomes a point of contact between Minoan material remains, the people studying them and the modern landscape.

Pan Entertainment identifies the completed 99-minute feature as a 2023 film and lists its Thessaloniki, Chania and Louvre JIFA appearances that year. The long span of shooting is part of the film’s history, not evidence of a current production.

Known filming locations

Zakros in eastern Crete is the documented central filming setting. The producer describes an extended observational shoot around the archaeological site and local community.
