01Official curation for the GNTO symposium
Archaeopolis and Georgios Katsos were officially credited with the curation of the symposium’s experiential exhibition. The installation accompanied the first GNTO symposium ‘Greece, the Land of Wellbeing’, which connected sustainable hospitality with Greek food and culture.
02A material history of Greek wellbeing
Georgios Katsos developed the concept and creative direction of the Greek Tourism Posters audiovisual work and undertook its historical research. The poster material was selected jointly by Georgios Katsos and Nikos Zappas; Zappas directed and animated the archive into a moving visual narrative.
03Seven films across a century of tourism imagery
Structured in seven chronological films, the work follows the changing image of Greece across the decades: 1929–1939, 1940–1949, 1950–1959, 1960–1969, 1970–1979, 1980–1989 and 1990–1999. Seen together, the films form a visual history of how landscape, antiquity, hospitality, modernity and national identity were communicated to international audiences.
04Historical gastronomy as audiovisual interpretation
Rather than treating the posters as isolated graphic objects, the installation placed them inside a living cultural narrative. A century of tourism imagery became evidence of changing aspirations: from early archaeological and landscape symbolism to the colour, photography and lifestyle language of late twentieth-century destination branding.
05An installation designed for an institutional audience
The commission linked this audiovisual archive with reconstructed material culture and the wider experiential exhibition. This expanded the symposium beyond conference discussion, giving visitors a physical and cinematic encounter with the relationship between tourism, gastronomy, heritage and the ways Greece has imagined itself for the world.
06A documented collaboration with Nikos Zappas
A second film developed for the same GNTO event focused on the gastronomy of the ancient Greek world. Georgios Katsos contributed to the work with Nikos Zappas; the public YouTube record identifies it as an animated film by Zappas for GNTO. Together, the film and the experiential exhibition connected ancient food culture with the symposium’s wider discussion of hospitality, wellbeing and cultural tourism.
07The public record and the private archive
The official event programme records the St. George Lycabettus venue, the welcome by GNTO President Angela Gerekou, participation by the Ministry of Tourism and the explicit credit ‘Experiential exhibition curation: Archaeopolis – Georgios Katsos’. The full seven-film work is preserved below as a public playlist.
