What we delivered.
Martial research made public
The delivered presentation focused on Byzantine hoplomachia and techniques associated with later Byzantine sword practice. Reconstructed protective equipment, weapons, embodied demonstration and audience-facing interpretation translated martial research into a live public programme.
Production delivered within a regional festival
The production required the movement of personnel and equipment to Northern Greece, preparation of the demonstration and delivery within a wider institutional festival devoted to the succession of cultures along the historical Via Egnatia.
Georgios Katsos inside the interpretation
A dated event photograph shows Georgios Katsos addressing the Alexandroupolis audience and explaining the Byzantine swordsmanship presentation beside an equipped interpreter. Contemporary public posts and the complete video record further confirm the performance on 3 September 2016.
