The production story

Directed by Seth Ward and James Younger, the documentary follows Makis Metaxas’s interpretation of a Mycenaean tomb on Kefalonia and the controversy around its possible connection with Homer’s hero. Morgan Freeman reads passages from Homer.

The identification is a claim investigated by the film, not an established archaeological identification of Odysseus or his remains. The programme premiered on PBS on 28 August 2024; the archive distinguishes this documentary from fictional Odyssey adaptations.
